Travel Insurance for the over 65's
Discussion
My mum (74) just took out a policy with Insure and Go which was pretty reasonable. She has a couple of medical conditions which they were able to cover for an additional premium.
I've heard that the Post Office policy is very good; you'll need to phone them up to get a quote, I think.

Thanks, that's a good start. The insurance company I was with for years refused to insure me when I reached 65. How you can be okay one one day, and 24 hours later your to much of a risk, is a scam. Others the premium trebled or doubled when you put in your age, seems to me the've just found another money grabing excuse to fleece their customer.
be careful, cheapest is not always the best option when buying insurance, all seesm fine until you try ot make a claim, might be worth paying a bit more if it is with a recognised realiable insurer, have you checked the Saga website, they may have something
good luck and enjoy the trip

Wait until you get to 80, my Mother has to pay through the nose for travel insurance, if she can get insured that is!

Unfortunately the simple fact of the matter is that over 65's are far more likely to make a claim, hence the premium.
There are several factors to it but one of the main reasons is over 65's are likely to travel several times in a year which, over the course of an annual policy, exposes the underwriter to greater risk. Therefore they will either refuse or take a risk but want additional payment in order to do so.

My parents used them this year. My dad took ill on a Greek island with no hospital on the day they were due to fly back (fully recovered now). They were great at sorting out transport and accommodation. He was discharged from hospital on a Monday but the next flight to Manchester was Saturday. They flew them to Gatwick on the Wednesday and dropped them at the front door in a taxi.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
