We've been twice, 2018 & 2019, had 2020 booked with BA on an absolute bargain but that obviously didn't happen. Our budget means we fly in the cheap seats. First time over we flew with Etihad with a long layover in Adu Dhabi, we booked a room in the hotel that's inside the airport for the way over. The lay over wasn't as long on the way back.
In 2019 we went with Cathay Pacific and had 4 or 5 days in Hong Kong before heading on with them to Osaka. The return from Tokyo had a relatively short layover in HK. I wouldn't fly with Cathay Pacific again as the service and food onboard was dreadful.
