It's the morning flights that seem to suffer. By late afternoon you are usually ok.
Mine was a 4pm flight and still suffered. Seems a bit random presently.

Hopefully things will get back to normal in June when the works are due to be finished.

Anyone know if they are reinstalling the escalators or is it only lifts from now on?

As a quick update, and a comparison for reference.

We are at T1 At Lanzarote airport now.

Arrived at 8:45 for our 11:15 flight.

There were no queues to speak of at checkin, despite being over 50 flights on the departure board for this morning.

I thought it would be interesting to time the security queues.

But, there weren’t any, in fact it took 8 minutes to get through security and be in the lounge.

Compare that to the total transit time from arrival at the airport to getting into the lounge at Birmingham which took 1 hour and 55 minutes.

It really does need to be addressed!

The joke continues at BHX.

When I couldn’t pre book Security fast track on line last week, I did decide to book premium fast track immigration for our return journey today.

The joke is as on me sadly. The premium fast track lane was closed, when we asked why the guy at the top of the stairs said it was because the lift used for that route is still out of action.

I asked how long he said it’s been weeks out of service.

So that was £28 totally wasted, I’m sure attempting to get any sort of refund will be too much hassle to even bother trying.

Not through your credit card provider it won't be.

"I paid for this. They didn't provide it." = refund.

Sadly as before used my Amex charge card, so no credit card, no refund!

IIRC Amex has S.75 type cover as part of their T&Cs without it being a legal obligation. I stand to be corrected.

As mentioned, Amex Platinum still has chargeback functionality.

I flew out Sunday 26th. Into the airport at 3:30am for a 6:30am flight. 30 mins to check in and 40 mins through security which was fairly 'quiet'.

After arriving back on Sunday at 4pm, the security queue was past the end of the airport, so I'd work on 2 hours+

Ahem. There does appear to be an issue in that if you were to get the monorail from Resorts World after checking in your luggage, you would end up outside the lifts on the first floor, resulting in a 20 minute queue for security...

We've just booked flights to Spain from BHX on 10th August.

Am I right in thinking that the building work will be completed by then?

Book fastrack online now and you’ll be fine whatever the situation.

That leaves me with less £££s for my young ‘un to spend on hooky football shirts outside Bar Arena, Phil! hehe

I know this is PH and everyone’s chauffeur drops them off at the terminal in their Maybach but I’m rather old skool and object to paying extra for something as basic as getting through airport security. They’ve had ages to sort this so really need to get their finger out before the school holidays. It’s embarrassing that our second city’s airport is always a bit of a shambles.

The signs say completion of work is summer 2024. I’m usually an optimist but having flown from BHX recently I wouldnt be surprised if it took longer.

Friend of mine went through B’ham Airport this morning. Received a text thanking me for recommending fastrack for £5 as it was absolute carnage. Her words. She sailed through as a result of fastrack. So much for finishing the work by the beginning of June!

I've relented and just shelled 15 quid on Express Lane tickets for August, thanks for the warning.

How did you book? Every date I put in shows no availability.

I mainly use Ryanair from BHX and there is an option to book fastrack when buying the ticket or you can add it on later but best to buy it early.
