It is but I’d rather fly one or two more hours to the Caribbean and be somewhere more interesting with much more to see and do.
Sure, but OP's intent was to go somewhere that offers: 'Requirements are 10 - 14 days with a beach and "enforced downtime" and minimal rushing about, stress and worrying about expenses etc. so no city breaks.'CharlesdeGaulle said:
If you haven't decided yet, Cap Verde is worth considering. Additional advantage of avoiding the longer flights.
Seconded. A bit further than the Canaries but the AI is decent value and there's hardly anything else on the island so just kick back, enjoy the sun and food for an easy week. The weather was perfect at around 29deg almost every day when we went in Oct/Nov last year. It tipped up to 35 one day but there was a reasonable wind with it which helped. The rest of the time it was calm. Cupid-stunt said:
Have been to Dubai, Abu Dabi and RAK in Sept / Oct - all have their plus points, but prob better places that are more suited to the OP requirements.
Oman is a place that I have wanted to go .... anyone else been?
Did Mauritus at the end of Sep and stayed for 10d on the west coast and then 4d in the east coast - it has a beautiful hotels and facilities and very chilled out - I would not hesitate to return there!!
Oman is ok, but not sure I’d go there for a beach holiday. Cooler weather than the UAE but imho best suited to an overland trip, couple of days up the mountains and a couple in the beach resort south of Muscat. Oman is a place that I have wanted to go .... anyone else been?

Not sure anyone has mentioned Sri Lanka yet. October would be perfect weather wise.
