Going pretty close to the Michael Schumacher collection if your around Cologne.

Never knew about this one but saw it on an Autoalex video not long ago

https://www.privatecollection.ms/en/site/index

Aiming to Include on our summer roadtrip which we are planning which is to Split and back (Spending a week in Split).

Another vote for the Technik Museum - although we didn't go in as we past it early evening, we did drive by and park outside of it to get a closer look as was very intrigued to see planes on the roof of a building as we approached on the Autobahn!

One more for a brief stop off is the Red Bull hanger near Salzburg airport which looks like your nearby! Free entry, won't take any more then 30mins but has some good exhibits.

Someones already mentioned you'll also be passing Hockenheim, or at least not being far away, you have the memorial to Jim Clark which is accessible without needing to enter the track. You may go close to Zolder also.

Non-automotive/technical -> Another suggestion on the leg in South Germany is the Neuschwanstein Castle if you can fit it in and interested! We were there last year and that was truly stunning. You'll also be near the Eagles Nest but hear mixed things about if that is actually worth it or not.

We preferred the Speyer Technik Museum just up the road from Sinsheim - even more varied and they have, amongst other things, a Russian Buran space shuttle.

The Schumacher collection is in Motorworld in Cologne and is free, it’s a nice exhibit. Another 45 minutes is Classic Remise on the outskirts of Dusseldorf which is a large storage and dealer of some nice classic cars.

Hockenheimring also has a small museum incidentally.

And, if you want a quick Dutch detour, this is a wonderful place

Colditz Castle - about 50km south east of Leipzig - absolutely fascinating place - the guide was wonderful too.

+1 on the Technik Museum's (Sinsheim is only 40km from Speyer) everything, boats, planes, trains, Walter Röhrl car's, submarines, rare motorbikes. Very reasonable entry fee too

Getting a little closer to the time now.

Does anyone know where I can find some decent up to date info about low emissions zones in Germany? (And Italy?)

I’ve just suddenly thought that I might have some issues getting into the cities I plan to.

You can get the emissions sticker here - https://www.berlin.de/labo/mobilitaet/kfz-zulassun...

Anyone charging more than 6€ is a scam. You need a scan of your V5 - sticker comes in the post (quite quickly) and doesn't expire

You can get a similar one for France too, which is inexpensive and doesn't expire

I didn't bother with any emissions stuff for Italy - didn't know they had any!

I should be ok without the French one, I think I’ll get it anyway just in case because it was only a few quid last time but I should be ok as I’m only passing through and not visiting any cities.

I’ll be passing through Austria and Switzerland too and it looks like I’ll need a vignette to use the motorways there too.

It’s very confusing.

Oooo, looking at interest at this I hadn't even realise this was a thing in Germany! I drove in the Centre of Stuttgart last year and around a few cities including koblenz, bonn and havn't received any nastly letters in the post r.e my UK registered car.

This year would include Aachen, Munich, Cologne, Regensburg which appear to be listed - need to do some more research!

I'm already sorted for France (quick and seemless process!) but won't be going into any city's, literally Calais -> Belgium border this year.

You have to buy an annual one for CH (40 swiss francs), but you can get a 10 day for Austria (about 20€). With vignettes and emissions stickers cluttering the windscreen it's just possible to see where you are going !

There are two Technik museums, Sinsheim and Speyer. They are not that far away from each other.

Both are a good mix of cars, aircraft and several other interesting surprises. I visited them both, plus a tour of Hockenheim, one long weekend a few years ago. That was flying to Stuttgart and basing myself near Heidelberg - which is another place well worth a visit.

For the Austrian vignette, depending on your crossing point you may bell be able to buy immediately as you enter.

We entered on the A14 near Bregenz and almost immediately as you cross the border there is a big service station type place to buy the vignette. Worth checking your entry point but fairly seamless!

Just thought i would mention incase others were wondering.... followed the application for the German ULEZ sticker, took just under a couple of weeks for it to arrive, relatively painless, similar to when I applied to the french equivilant.

Which site did you use for the LEZ sticker?

I'm going to be driving in Koln/Cologne, Stuttgart & (maybe) Frieburg over the summer.

Appears that the TUV site offers a national one @ E17.50.

Anyone know if a single sticker, e.g. Cologne will suffice in other cities?

Cheers

They cost somewhere around €5 for a national green sticker (could be €4, could be €6 - no way is it €17.50). You're either buying the wrong thing, or being ripped off.

Haven't bought it (link was via TUV German site) - I couldn't find a cheaper national sticker option though, they seem to be specific to cities hence question - if I buy one for Stuttgart (for E4) will that cover me for the whole trip.

This is a link that someone else posted earlier in this thread

https://www.berlin.de/labo/mobilitaet/kfz-zulassun...

It says "Here you can file an application for an environmental zone sticker for every vehicle registered in Berlin or another German registration-office, even for every foreign vehicle."

It's for a national sticker - not just Berlin.

That's the website I used. Attached a copy of the front page of my V5, thinking that would be enough but I had an email to say they need a pdf (or jpgs) of the whole thing to be able to process it.

That was 10 days ago now and my sticker is yet to arrive. Hopefully it'll be here soon.

The Austrian one was easy but it's a bit annoying that there's only a digital option for the 10 day one. I would have liked a physical sticker.

Swiss one I think I'm going to do at the border. I can't find anywhere online doing it for less than about £47, and it'll be a tenner less when I'm there.
