The missus and I have been shipping Basil Beagle about in his transport crate, in the back of her Golf, but she is due a change of steed soon and we are completely stuck on what to get.

5k tops, and needs to be a bit of fun when Basil is not onboard.

Have the PH massive got any ideas please?

We use a Passat Estate.

But with a Beagle I'd have thought any Coupe will do and use a car harness?

No exciting cars here anymore (thats what having kids does) however we've always used car harness on back seat. He's a whippet so plenty of room for him and I prefer this to sticking them in the back (even though hubby has an estate and I have a hatch back) Dogs get so hot in boots, esp as there is no way to open windows in the boot. Obviously more of a necessity for bigger dogs!

The only draw back is hairs on the seat but you can get car seat covers that still allow you to use a harness.

We have put him in the boot of the estate when we needed people room and he did ok but I think he prefers to not be so cut off!

Don't you worry if a crash occurs that your dog could end up trapped in the footwell due to the crush from an impact? I only ask because this is what has stopped me letting my dog sit in the footwell!

Fair point smile I seem to always think worst case scenario!! Chances of it happening are extremely slim.

I'd have thought that the footwell would be about as safe as it gets for a dog in a car, it's not going to fly forwards and the footwell is part of the car area that is designed to stay intact, after all it's where the passenger would have their feet. But don't confuse me with someone who knows what he is talking about....

We have a Subaru Forester and an Audi A6 Estate, our Newfoundland didn't appreciate the boot of a Fiesta, but did fit.

Range Rover.

Obviously I NEED an extra large vehicle for our extra large dogs.

The Shih Tzu has a penchant for chewing the leather in our cars, grrr.

Don't get a MINI, mine does not enjoy the go-kart handling. While is I shame, because I do!

We harness her and put her in the back seats of cars usually, too concerned about boot crumple zones to put her in there. She likes the 944 though.

Not for your budget unfortunately, but our choc labrador LOVES travelling in our VW splitscreen camper. Really. Cargo doors easy for her to get in (she's a bit of a chubster) and then she sits between the front seats for a good view of what's going on ahead, then goes back into the main section to hang out with the kids when she gets bored. Yes, yes, I know the safety police would have a fit, but it's a 1960s vehicle so they can kiss my entire arse.

Beautiful. Get thee to the 'dogs' thread.
