Hi all, was kayaking in the sea of Hunstanton today when I saw some swirls on the surface of the water not too far from me. So I padaled over and to my amazment saw what looked like the mouth of a crocodile just under the surface of the water. (stop laughing I'm serious!) couldn't see the head or the body, could only see what looked like the mouth/jaw. Anyway my heart skipped a beat and I paddled like mad to the shore. As I was paddling I looked back and saw the same mouth I saw earlier like it was following me! I know this sounds crazy but I know what I saw. I'm not saying for sure it was an crocodile or alligator but what ever it was it didn't look like it belonged in hunstanton sea! What's the chances of what I saw being a crocodile or alligator? Is it at least possible? Would love to know.

Been speaking to a friend and he said it could of been a cayman? Sounds more probable then a crocodile!

How small was it? Could have been a Pike? Or an escaped "pet"....

more info required i think as staggeringly unlikely to be any of those.

how big? what colour? how close did you get and how sure are you it really was something rather than your brain redressing driftwood? any other info?

It would be awesomely cool...but saltwater crocs are MASSIVE (and obviously aren't usually in Norfolk) and alligators and caymans very much prefer fresh water.....

still, who knows! pets, zoos...escape possibilities....they're bloody hardy buggers after all

It was no doubt an animal of some type, not drift wood or anything as such, what attracted me to it was the swells on the surface of the water which made me paddle over. what i then saw was what looked like the mouth like shape of a crocodile/alligator/caymon. Couldn't see any other part of the animal as to be honest i didn't fancy hanging around! as for the color it looked to be dark green like that of a croc which makes me think it could of been one! however the water wasn't exactly crystal so hard to say for sure. hard to say on the size as i only saw what looked to be the mouth, sort of wished i stuck around to see if i could see more of it as its been playing on my mind non-stop since! what ever it was it wasn't afraid of me on my kayak because as i was paddling to the shore i looked over my shoulder and saw the same mouth like shape about 2 feet away from the side of my kayak. ive never paddled so quick!

dude i think you need to go back...this is far too cool an opp to miss.

they're not THAT dangerous, lol....well in all likelihood wouldnt be to you in a kayak...they tend to eat fish. unless it's a monster but i think were that the case surely someone else would have seen it?

so...grow yourself a big pair of brass ones, break out the camera and go get some pics!

I flushed some sea monkeys by accident once.

They might have mutated?

It could be this one I threw back earlier after wrestling to the shore.

Could have been a basking shark. There are LOADS of them around and they just float around under the surface with their mouths open....they are very placid and often dont move when boats etc get near them.

having been in the sea off Hunstanton at this time of year in the past it can only be a rare Arctic crocodile or a fish!
