Anyone know what kind of snake this is?

It turned up in a mates garden, has being eating birds and is roughly 5foot long.

Where does your mate live? That's not a UK indigenous species, if it's in the UK then it's probably an escaped pet.

I think you should call the RSPCA - non native snakes should definitely not be out in the wild! They will probably be able to ID it for you.

Markings are more broken up and random, and its a lot bigger than a rat snake!

But he says that's the closest so far!

The head makes it look like a milk snake of some kind, most rat snakes have a arrow shaped head. Maybe an Eastern Milk Snake?

King Brown or Mulga? If it is, you may want to stay away from the front end.

Not sure it could be this! Head is the wrong kind of shape, different markings too!

Cheers all so far!

Encourage it to bite your friend.

This will help to narrow down whether its venomous.

Wow, what an amazing animal, bet your mate was a little surprised to find it.

Hopefully the RSPCA have someone skilled in handling something more exotic than your basic grass snake....actually, could it be a grass snake? they get over 5ft long and there are lots of varieties of markings, not sure whether it matches head shape etc though.

Actually, ignore that, it's eating birds not frogs, hopefully the RSPCA can ID it, especially if they need an antivenom after trying to catch it!!

Looks like a corn or milk snake to me. My ex-flatmate used to keep them and they grew pretty large
