On the bridal paths and fields where we walk our dog there are lots of dead rabbits, far more than we have ever seen before. I'm guessing this is due to myxomatosis. Our dog loves nothing more the picking these up and giving them a good shake then running round with them. Is there any risk too him picking up this disease? Should we be looking at alternative walking roots? As stopping him from doing this is pretty hard.

Not a chance of you're Dog getting 'diseased', It's even safe for a human to eat a Rabbit that's had Mixi..
Dog might pick up Ticks though but If he enjoys playing with them let him be..

Well my old dog "Petra" killed over 100 rabbits with mixy, and even our rabbit in the garden didn't catch it.

I often wished the disease on the man that made it; he died earlier this year, he also developed the cure to smallpox, but I couldn't forgive him for what he did to the rabbit.

Years later, one of our "pet" rabbits did catch it, but that was because my dad fed rabbit roadkill to our Owl.
