We are looking to get another dog , we have a small german shepherd dog whom is a delight to walk & own , we are considering buying a beagle which will be expensive KC registered dog, but am hearing nightmare recall & training stories & how difficult they can be to train, there is also a german shepherd from a shelter at 16 weeks that was returned to the shelter for being too aggressive at 8 weeks , kind of thinking that can be cured , i really fancy the Beagle & would like some advice before parting with my hard earned , Any advice greatly appreciated

Each to his own of course, but I would never choose a beagle. I know they can be trained if you know what you are doing, but just seems too much hard work to me (says she who takes in bitey/OCD collies laugh )

Also, having been involved in rescue for many years, I would always get a rescue (only from a reputable rescue though - some are no better than dog dealers). You can even find a beagle in rescue!

Do it...

This little chap is my sisters taking when she got him. He is now 12 months old so a lot bigger than this. A lovely fella who is good as gold apart from chewing twigs and stuff as discussed in the other thread.

Manic, hilarious, disobedient, selectively deaf, nose-following gutbuckets, until you have experienced one, you don't appreciate the good and the bad, I'd have a working style beagle if I didn't have a job, but 3 slobby labradors are betterr suited to me.
