I have dogs and cats and the dogs have an outside door... We don't like the cats going outside for health reasons.

I have tried to develope ways to keep the cats inside but have been unsuccessful ...until now... Fingers crossed...

These pics show my new door uninstalled(the plastic keeps the dogs from chafing their noses and potentially harming their eyes):

What do you think?

I'll show how it works shortly.

our dog flap is kept sealed by a magnet at the bottom that is too strong for cats to get through, that and the dogs will not let any cats use it hehe

I have tried soooo many variations, including magnets, and none have worked. The magnetic one I tried wasn't strong enough so I glued on more magnets but they did't hold...

These crafty S.O.B.s can open accordian doors, cabinet doors and even soda cans.

Can you post a pic of your cat-proof door so that I may replicate it? I don't think anyone sells anything of that sort in the states.

The one I made SEEMS to be working. I think it just intimidates them... for some reason.

Thanks,

M

I didn't notice that you said your dogs don't allow your cats to use it. We thought of just posting a sign: keine Katzen erlaubt!!!

on Amazon, one of these

The double door plus magnets and the insulated bit in the middle means its just too much for a cat to push through, especially if the bottom of the flap is about 12 - 15" above the floor (won't work if you have low loaders mind you hehe )

And the dogs launch through it like a race horse going over Beechers Brook!!!

Ours too! The cat will sit outside it too and only pop back in while its open if the dog goes out.

I must say, I've doubled those up (one inside and one out) and glued extra magnets, and even MORE magnets, and those furry bastages still get out.

However, my new aluminum plate with cabinet latches is working fine now. No cats going out. But, with low pressure inside, it does blow in. So, I need to construct some sort of outside flap to insulate the interior door. I was thinking of using a strip of the PVC strip (curtains found in restaurant walk-in fridges) and overlapping on the outside as an insulating curtain (just like restaurant fridges).

what kind of cats you have? mountain lions? Only other animal that has got through our dog flap was the local Monkey, and he has only done that once hehe
