Saw this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshi...

Then thought that the poor fish have nothing to do in the 13ft by 3ft by 7ft tank as there is f all in it...

I admire he raised many from birth or as babies and that in itself is amazing but if he can do that, then why on earth can he not be bothered to landscape the tank so that the fish have something to do other than stare at the 2 branches he put in there...

Looking at it, it looks over stocked too!!

I dont see this going down well with the Aquarium forums and I hope its a not finished project as that is just cruel otherwise!!

Saw this on the local news yesterday. I like where his Tv should be biggrin

We only have a tank with 6-7 Discus in it, We often end up staring at the tank rather than the TV at night.

News Article said:
The 4,500-gallon freshwater fish tank is 7ft (2.1m) deep and 13ft (4m) wide...Mr Heathcote said he had had a passion for fish since childhood and dreamt of building a 50,000 gallon tank and breaking the world record for a private aquarium, currently held by an American.
So it isn't then.

All the big tanks I've seen tend to be fairly minimal on aquascaping. There are four reasons to aquascape that I can think of:

1. To provide suitable hiding places for those fish that need them.
2. To break up line of sight and help create territories for those fish that can be aggressively territorial.
3. To provide spawning places.
4. For the pleasure of the fishkeeper - aesthetics.

I don't believe with his existing stocking that any of those four above count. Features in the aquarium aren't something that all fish need, and IMO they certainly aren't toys - they are there for function or for the owners pleasure. So personally I don't see that as an issue, and indeed in all the really big (i.e big enough to swim in) tanks I've seen kept but much more experienced and respected fish keepers than they tend to be bare tanks. That doesn't appeal to me personally (I enjoy the aesthetics of a well aquascaped tank) but I don't see it as some sort of fish keeping faux pas.

Very impressive tank and his missus must be very understanding.

Not a bad effort.

When I win the Eurolottery I'll have a marine tank that dwarfs that thing!

If I win the euromillions I'll just have a beachside villa in the Bahamas and a mask and snorkel!

Well that goes without saying (Maldivian Island or just a water villa on permanent rent for me), I just meant for the lounge of my new house. Oh, and there would be another room with another half decent sized tank in it..
