Am looking at putting up a box in the garden amd want to see any activity going on in there. I know I'm probably a bit late for this year but it will give the locals chance to check it out and get used to it.

Does anyone have one? Are they any good or are the cameras ste?

Am looking at the one that come all built in, but if they are rubbish, I am happy to buy a seperate, decentish, camera and fit it myself.

Thanks

Hannah

I got my parents a camera to go in one and Dad made the box to put it in, it's great! Range is probably on the limit at about 10m (going through wood of the birdbox, tree and house wall) and you'll need power near the camera too.
Can't comment on the boxes themselves, but it only took Dad an hour or so to make the one he made, main difference between this one and a normal box is that it's twice as tall to allow the camera to see all of the inside of the box.
I can't link to the site I got it from (for some reason my internet only allows me to go on certain sites at the minute, luckily PH is one of them) but the site was something like spycameracctv.com

They were the people I was looking at to get a seperate camera from in case people said the standard one were rubbish.

Thanks for the bit about the distance, I did wonder if the advertised '30m' was clear view rather than real situ.

My brother bought one for my kids from one of the discount supermarkets (ALDI or NETTO)

I made it up myself and the 30m lead plugs in the AV input on the TV. The power lead "splits" only about 5-6inches away from the AV socket, so you dont need power near the box itself.

Ours has been on a north facing wall about 15ft high for 3 weeks and in the last week we have had activity, a male tit i believe lining the nest with moss and grass.

The picture is fine for the kids and gives enough detail to make it interesting.

It's not exactly HD, but you get the idea. Plus it saved the hassle of me buying a box and fitting a camera and lead.
