My cats been missing since 07:30 Friday (he didn't eat the food I've left out) and was wondering if it's worth looking for him?

If he's injured (frown) he will crawl under a bush and go to sleep and I'll never find him. Where do cats go anyway?
Do they just get lost of go for a wonder?

He's gone missing before but not this long.

Is it worth looking for him?

He's chipped (Wednesday!) and has a collar.

Thanks. frown

Might be worth asking neighbours to check their sheds and garages if s/he still hasn't shown up later today. Cats often wonder in for a nose and then get shut in whilst they're investigating the darkest recesses.

They do wonder off for days at a time aswell so don't assume the worst if the shed search comes up blank. Try not to stress as you can fully expect the furry little bugger to come wondering in as if nothing has happened at some point over the next week.

I just went out to look for him on the bike then thought it better to use the motorbike, as he knows the noise, just makes you realise he could be anywhere.

Probably romancing some pussy knowing him. hehe

Door to door with leaflets etc asking people to check their sheds and garages...

And stick some flyers up around the local area.

Unfortunately it's spring and a young cat's instincts turn to worrying their parents and buggering off for days on end! Some seem to do this and others are fine - of my 7, I have 2 who never wander away, 1 who goes for days on end, one who has an away day a few days at home then another away day, another two who are usually within calling range - get the picture? They each do their own thing!! We're in the depths of the country, with about 8 neighbours within 1 or 2 miles, and it's surprising how far away my cats are sighted, particularly the - neutered - toms.

When in our old house we did once lose a tom for about 3 weeks and had just about given up - despite the leafletting and 'sightings' - then 1 evening David was out and I heard a noise I never want to hear again from the cat flap. It was Hagar, a big Norwegian Forest Cat, reduced to a bag of bones and starving hungry. The vet said he'd probably been locked in somewhere while someone was on holiday but probably had access to water as his kidneys were OK. So don't give up yet!! And let us know when he comes back swaggering!!

inform the vets as a missing cat, they will log the details and take your details, the best time to go out looking/calling him is late at night when noise has died down, if he is locked in a shed etc you may be able to hear him.
one of mine went missing for 5months one day he just turned up- skinney but ok.
GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU FIND HIM.

As the others have said, its that time of year, not only may he be following round a queen on heat but he may have got in to a scrap with a territorial tom over a girl and either run and got a bit dis-oriantated or just showing his prowess over a new bit of lady-cat! It is definately worth asking neighbours etc to check sheds and garages as people are starting to get out lawnmowers, bbqs etc which can lead to nosey cats getting in trouble. Let your vet know on Monday, if he doesn't show up. Cats can curl up and die if injured, especially by roads, but most people will take them to a vet or call the council who will check for a chip, so no news is good news in that respect. Try not to worry too much, they are very resiliant, ours goes out in the fields and gets obsessed with catching things, especially with sleep/baby things appearing and we don't see him for days until he arrives back with half a dozen or so present!

Ours disappeared for 9 weeks and I was besides myself, but he just boweled up one day and demanded dinner as if nothing had happened!

Is he neutered? If yes then not likely to be off after females, so check with your neighbours incase he's shut in somewhere. Hope he turns up soon frown

If not neutered, get him done when he gets back asap.

He's been neutered.
Never had any marks from scrapping as I think other cats feel sorry for him as his so small!

I'll call vets Monday and contact neighbours.

who knows!! would love to attach a camera to my cat to see where he gets too!

My cat went missing last year shortly after we moved house, so after 1 night I thought he was just exploring but after 2-3 nights I was getting worried and thought he'd got lost. I started phoning vets and printing out 'lost cat' leaflets to be posted out the next day, but thankfully didn't need them, he turned up late on the 4th night as if nothing had happened, looked well and seemed ok, I figured he had just gone exploring!

a few months later he went missing again, so I waited a few nights for him to come back just like last time, but he didn't frown so after a week I then again phoned vets and sent out 'lost cat' leaflets'. after 2 weeks I really had given up hope... then on the 16th night he walked in, but this time looking very skinny and old, so I presume this time he was probably locked in somewhere!! visit to the vet to get him checked out and lots of TLC he is now back to normal, thankfully.

my thread about it here http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

was interesting to hear other peoples stories of missing cats, and how common it is and that most do come back smile

Good luck with yours, Hope he's back soon smile

Got in from work and noticed his food had been eaten looked in garden and he's sniffing the fence tapped on window and he bounded in! hehe

Still got collar on and looks like he's been eating/being fed checked him over and he seems fine, if a little vocal!
Love to have known where he's been on his adventures.

Probably just been whoring around a local house so he can get food and cuddles for a while before he comes back to you. Cats can be like that.. Or out hunting..

You sure its your cat, and not one that just looks like him hehe

We have two, that some times will vanish for up to a week.

Chipped, not re-mapped. biggrin

No doubt he'll bugger off again but St least I know he's got some road sense (as he's not dead) and should be ok on future outings.

Our outdoors cat wears one of these on her collar.

http://www.loc8tor.co.uk/Store/product/Loc8tor-Pet...

Brilliant things - batteries last forever and the act of switching on the detector makes the collar beep and flash which she has learned to treat as her cue to come home (most of the time).

Other cat stays indoors (due to very poor eyesight and being arthritic) - no need for such devices for her.
