Question about Guinea pigs
Discussion
I got two Guinea pigs in the 10ft x 3ft x 3ft hutch and they live indoor at the moment. I want to put the hutch outside in garden.
Will the Guinea pigs copes with weather say from late march to september?
And what is the sort of preparation that I can do to hutch?
I will varnish the woods and put weather protection cover in front of hutch, but anything else i might miss?
ok as a breeder/exhibitor of guineas for 40 odd years this is my view, they can live very well outside, even the cold weather we had this winter was no problem, however, they WILL NOT put up with damp conditions, so make sure the cage is really rain proof and clean them at least 3 times a week, plenty of hay to keep them warm and to eat and lots of vit c rich foods. hardy little things.
^^^^ This.
Ours live outside pretty much all year round, only coming in when it drops well below freezing.
If you are treating a wooden hutch please make sure you are using pet friendly products, ours have a tendency to gnaw on the bits they can get to and you don't want to poison them.

Mine live in the lounge all year round. I don't really get the idea of having them as pets but then sticking them out of the way to be honest.
As it happens one of mine died this week I came home from work, gave my two boys some treats and went out to dinner. I came back an hour later and one of my fellas was dead, it looks like he just died in his sleep. He was only three and a half and was as happy as the day is long.
It's amazing how hard it hits you really but he was a fantastic piggy and it was a pleasure to share his life. Here's to Noz, sleep well my little prince.

dont forget to get a little mate for the one left behind, they can get very depressed by them selves and sometimes just give up on life and die, make sure its a very young boar, certainly no older than 6/7 wks. i have lots, where abouts are you?
