With you there. Beautiful creatures. I saw one sat on the hard shoulder of the M4 the other day, and spent the next forty miles wondering if/how I could have helped it. Had I not being traveling on the opposite side I would have done too – I'm completely stupid when it comes to animals. Hope he was OK. frown

So so sad, poor creatures. Hope the on e surviving Swan makes a full recovery.

I often go to my local swan 'hangout' in the summer and sit in amazement at these birds. Contrary to what people thing, they are actually quite friendly and inquisitive!

hehe

I think the large quantities of bird grain that i had taken up there possibly helped with their friendliness!

Ignoring my very poor taste joke previously-

really don't get this- why would anyone want to do this to any animal? we have had a spate of killings of horses and sheep around our way- can anyone offer any sort of explanation as to these peoples motivation? (beyond the "they're a nutter" type of explanation!)

This is truly abhorrent.

Does anybody know please, if the penalties for this would be higher than for say the equivalent crime against a dog for example?

I ask this as I was under the impression that Swans were Crown Property (or had some similar classification) and if so would this add gravity to the punishment?

I always thought the punishment for any damage to swans would always be more severe than if it were to any other animal due to them being 'owned' by the queen!

Fortunately, there are also people like this around. Sourced from the same site as the main topic.

If they'd taken the bodies then yes, but this appears to be simply killing them for the sake of killing them. Future murderer just starting out perhaps....

On the plus side, as a nation we are far better to animals than we are cruel.

This was on the local news last night. Beggars belief really, it's likely kids as it happened during half term week. Shame corporal punishment is banned.

I don't get it either. But I once saw a kid who was I guess 6ish try and kick a swan swimming in Pool park. (Fortunately she missed) The reason? I think it was because the swan had ignored her attempts to "stroke" it.

The good news is Karma struck, and her small trainer came off her foot as she kicked out and fell in the pond out of her reach. Now I could have saved her trainer, but I was happy to see it drift further out of reach as it happens.

I once saw a kid running after and trying to kick pigeons, whilst mother and father sat and watched (oh, and they had put out food of some kind as well). When I told them if he kicks a pigeon I'll kick them, they suddenly decided to stop the little darling from doing it....
