My 1 year old crossbreed has started being occasionally sick in the mornings (perhaps once or twice a week for the last month) but what comes out is a very small amount of bright yellow stuff. I assume it is bile? He is otherwise fit and healthy and it doesn't seem to bother him, he is just as lively afterwards and eats his breakfast no problems. Has anyone else had experience of this? I wonder if it's because he gets over excited in the mornings when I get up, a bit like when kids get hyped up? Or might it be something more serious? He is fed on Purina Beta Adult food.
Grateful for any thoughts.

First things first: do you live near Sellafield or Chernoble?

Had that with my Shih Tzu for years, never got to the bottom of it.

It didn't seem to bother her and she lived to seventeen and a half.

There is a known syndrome in dogs where they sick up bile if their stomach is empty.

People find that a biscuit or something similar just before bed helps smile

My boy kept doing this and I tried feeding him later in the evenings and a snack last thing at night, but it didn't work frown He kept being sick almost every day. Not bringing anything up and not heaving as such. Found out that he was intolerant to chicken. Changed his diet and it all went away smile

Thanks for the advice everyone - I won't be running straight to the vets then! I will try feeding him later and giving him a snack before bed see if it works. I hope I don't have to change his food as this one he actually likes as does my mastiff and my wallet!

I do believe hunger can trigger this. My cat does it occasionally yet always eats her breakfast and is fine.

I wouldn't worry too much unless it becomes more persistant.

Puppy was doing this first thing in the morning for a while, normally waking me up with beautiful sounds and sights.

3 or 4 bits of kibble before bed stopped it.

I expect she was eating grass to make herself sick.
