So i'm in work now and get a phone call from my fiancee who is sitting next to our dog, a labrador.
She becomes upset all of a sudden as she's noticed these little red lumps by his groin.
Sorry I can't put up a picture on here but my Flik-r account is here

Shall I take him the vet in the morning?

Thanks in advance!

No skanky hoes nearby no.
Also, he hasn't had the snip.
He's 5 months old if that's any more info.

It sounds like a puppy related pyoderma. Basically he may have picked up a little skin infection. Very common in pups of his age and should clear up but will need to see a vet in case antibiotics are needed (if it is this then antibiotics very likely) The quicker it's treated the faster it should clear up.

It's a bit like teenage acne (and can actually flare up on the chin) sometimes caused by contact allergy and more rarely food allergy.

Hopefully your vet can sort it out quickly for him smile

Thanks alot BexVN.
He's booked into the vets for tomoro.
They said it wouldn't cost if he's there only a minute but if they have to have a thorough look it'd be £10-£24 and the cost of any treatment on top of that.

So it was Pyoderma.
£20 consultation, £8 antibiotics. VAT to add.
He's a lucky puppy that he puts a big smile on my face most of the time biggrin

Can I ask which antibiotic you were given? My two cairns keep getting skin infections and althought the treatment has cleared it up, it has come back twice now.

They've had ceporex and Bert had another one(can't remember) which made him worse this time. In fact he goes back today as he still has lumps under his skin which are sore to the touch.

Just for info for Z4 Cephorum and Ceporex are the same antibiotic (that's there company names) the active ingredient in both is Cefalexin.

It's usually a very good first line antibiotic for skin conditions.

Z4 unfortunately if your Cairns are older they may have other more chronic longer term problems, if two courses haven't worked, further investigation is usually the next step. Hopefully for CharlieHotels pup this is a one off (though occ it happens again) and he'll grow out of it.

Skin conditions are horrible to treat because they are so many variables that can trigger a problem, hope they are all better soon!

Well Bert has got another course of Cephorex and also some prednisolone to help things along. Only two days in and his skin is so much better and his mood has lifted immensley. I think the steroid has helped there. (used to do the same to my mum when her asthma was bad..lol)

Using malaseb shampoo is also helping with his skin but he doesn't like standing still while covered in soap as it has to be left on for 10 minutes.
