Horrible really...

The missus has found a cat that looks like it's been run over and placed at the side of the road. She just wants to know who, if anyone, can be contacted since it looked like a well-fed, well looked after pet, so someone may well be missing it. No collar though. It is, of course, entirely possible that someone else has already done whatever to contact an owner, but she's a soppy so-and-so and wants to do the right thing.

I fear posting this in the lounge might get less than sympathetic responses smile

Ring the RSPCA, it may be chipped or something.

Perhaps call a vet to see whether they'll scan it for a chip?

If you feel you can, ask a vet if you can take it to them to be scanned. They should then take it from you and keep it for a week esp if not chipped to give an owner a chance to find it. That and try a few houses in the area.

You could try the local council too. Most have scanners and will contact the owner or will keep it for 7 days for someone to 'claim' it. I have put an advert in the local shop window when I found one, just a simple 'found, short desciption, please contact type'. Most owners will start looking after 24hrs so keep an eye out for Lost posters. A cat owner would rather know the worst and deal with it than have the forever 'what- happened' feeling.I always try to do something to help find the owner of a dead animal as I hope someone would do the same for me if the worst happen to my cat.

Local council was the answer smile

Apparently they picked it up this morning, will scan it for an id chip and keep hold of it for 7 days before 'disposal', assuming no-one claims it.
