Puppy ear bleeding

Am taking the little one to the Vets at the first opportunity (tomorrow late afternoon) but in the meantime, and to assuage my fears, has anyone get any experience/advice?

I have a 20 week old puppy with pendulous (think lab/spaniel rather than sticking up) ears who enjoys giving them a good old scratch and a squeak at the same time. I regularly have a look and no odour,no discharge. Tonight, however, he seems to have blood in the bottom part of the ear (both sides) but only traces rather than trickles. Anyone got any ideas? A quick google says infections should smell/be visible through wax or discharge but nothing noteworthy. Should I be worried?

How is his ear today? Could it be that he has scratched it just a bit too hard and scratched himself? Hope he is ok.
