I live in an old bungalow which has a chimney with a coarse aggregate and lime render finish. About 100m from my house is a huge tree which seems to have a large and permanent colony of jackdaws. Quite often when I am in the rear garden hanging washing or sweeping up, the jackdaws fly from the tree onto the roof and peck the stones out of the render and allow them to roll down the roof to the ground near to me (which is a concrete slab and I can hear them bouncing) At first I thought it was the neighbours kids throwing stones over the fence until I spotted the jackdaws on the roof demolishing the chimney. Now the render is knackered and the lead flashing is coming loose.

Why are they doing this???.......its not as if I dont have enough repair jobs around to do let alone climb on the roof to repair the chimney.

Jackdaws are clever buggers, but it appears you have a colony of halfwits. They have been known to pick up snails, then drop them from a height to crack the shells. Could they be thinking that your pebbles are their lunch?
