Pretty much as the title says, I just noticed that my empty cheesy doritos bag was in fact moving.
Before I could act on it, the little critter shot off under my bed somewhere. It moved very quickly, all I know is it was furry.

My flat is a bit of a tip, and it's on the ground floor, so I guess this was inevitable.

What is the best way I can lure it out and trap it? Would putting some food in a bin bag and waiting for it to run inside work? I have a hunch it might be a mouse, it would explain why it was attracted to the cheesy doritos bag so much.

Any help would be appreciated, though I don't really wanna kill the little guy.

Get a humane trap and put it near where you have seen it. Then release it some distance away.

Put some food in a glass jar, stick it at a 60 degree angle against a few books. Mouse can climb in to get the food but can't climb back out. They especially love peanut butter

I shall try that, I need to get hold of a jar though. Would cutting the top off an old 2L bottle of coke work?

I bet you the rat or mouse will be out before you've even started running. One bite and there'll be a hole big enough for them to squeeze through. Although, the only way to find out if i'm right or not is for you to try it biggrin

I put a mouse in a bin that was about a meter tall. It could nearly jump out of it. It will very easily get out of a glass jar.

Buy a humane trap. If you release it, you literally want to be as far away as you are willing to drive from your house. Miles away. Otherwise it will be back.

Better still, buy a proper trap, then you can put it in any size bin you want and it won't jump back out.

I used to live in a creaky old bungalow and one night I was in the lounge on the sofa and saw this mouse come up from under the lounge door and as bold as you like walk over to the dogs water bowl, perch on the side with all 4 legs and dip his head in for a drink then hop down and go back the way he came.

I bought a humane trap, put it along the side of the wall and caught him the next day. Lovely little thing, I liberated him to the garden and never saw him again.

Personally I wouldn't get a humane trap, get a few proper ones as the chances are there will be more than one mouse about. Don't leave food or crumbs around as this will just encourage them, and untidiness just gives them more places to hide. I write from experience as I used to share a 3rd floor flat that regularly had visits from mice.

Proper trap, high cocoa chocolate. Snap. No more mouse.

(Then leave it out for a couple more weeks to make sure he didn't fetch any buddies along)

Thanks for the help guys, looks like buying a trap is the only effective way of doing it, what stores sell them?

You can buy them in Robert Dyas. Or even Waitrose. Peanut butter is good.

But, clean your flat. He hasn't popped 'round for company. He is looking for food.

I shall attempt to clean it. I would put a picture up, but I'm not sure I could live with the shame.
