Nervous or breed associated ?

Got a CAIRN , he's now nine ,but I suspect till I got him ,he'd had little contact with other dogs ,socially .
Now ,he meets a pair of Newfoundlands - who're very placid - he barks and they just woof - and sort of play with him . He also meets a trio of GS -again - they all get on well ,apart from his tendency to try and scent mark me .Westys /JR-no problem -it's like he's met a mate - find post ,piddle .
My problem - why mark me ?

Does he cock his leg on other people, or just you?
How do you react to his weeing on you?

Just over a year,he's nine now ,castrated at six months.
Mostly me ,sometimes the rest of a group ,but only in the presence of the three GS ,that I've got him to accept .Apart from these three who've welcome him & ignored his reactions to the point that he now accepts them ,he's also made friends with some Newfoundlands .Any other larger dog he is wary off,and can get assertive almost aggressive (but he's neer attacked ,only warned off ).Dogs same size/smaller( except Staffs) he's ok with
Part of this I put down to the breed ( Cairn),but I'm wondering if perhaps his previous owner ( elderly couple) never socialised him ,as his behaviour has improved meeting other dogs off lead.
If I catch him ,I warn him off and he stops .Only seems to happen if I am chatting to other owners -could this be some form of attention grab ,realising that if he shows jealousy he gets told off ,but praised for mixing .Or just him saying -lets go ,I want my walk .

Probably nervous, peeing on you in front of the GS' to inform them that he owns you, so back off, this is my bh, and at the same time attention seeking. Its territorial marking, or social ranking.

Our husky gets nervous about big dogs, unless its another husky, gets abit snappy to warn them off if its a boisterous male doesn't like them in her face until shes been allowed to sniff their rears, but on no account is anyone allowed to sniff her. lol.

Very similar behaviour . Feel it's lack of confidence( in spite of his bravado) possibly from lack of socialisation when younger .Mt guess is that his previous owner was nervous ,keeping him from socialising and the fear was picked up by him making him protective .I'm working on it on that theory
