I took my 2 year old Golden Lab out for his morning walk this morning. 7:30 like every morning. I take him up to the sports field and let him have a good run about off the lead. Always have. He is obedient and social to other dogs.

Yesterday there was a newcomer on the 'patch'. A beardy with bluetooth set in his ear (for no apparant reason), proper trainspotting anorak and a badly proportioned Alsatian. Yesterday he did his thing, I did mine.

This morning, my dog decided to say hello to his Alsatian, who was on one of those extendable leads. As he gets closer I say a usual jovial 'Morning' which he ignores. 30 seconds later and he says-

"It quite clearly states that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times" To be fair to him it does.
I say "ok" and carry on. He then follows with-
"I will be ringing the council when I get home and reporting you"
I say "ok" and carry on.

I was proud of myself for not being rude, or abusing him. Hindsight has got me pretty angry about this and to be honest I feel like some sort of revenge.

Some facts that may help you with your opinion on what happened-

1) The sportsfield is signposted as dogs on lead but people rarely do.
2) That time of the morning, I am usually the only one there. As I say he is new in the area to me.
3) I keep my dog to the edges so don't have it running over the football pitch.
4) He has never fouled the pitch and I always take him for his business before we get to the field.

What do you think good people of PH?

I wouldn't worry about being reported or whatever. I would stop my dog from approaching any on lead dog I didn't know.

Yeah I echo what Steve said. Wouldn't worry about the council, but you should control your dog, especially approaching dogs on leads.

Do you let him crap on the sports field?

If so, I have no sympathy for you (but I'm sure as a responsible PHer you clean up after said pet) smile

All I can say is if I walked my dog in a field that said must be on a lead, I'd keep him on a lead to avoid aggro.

I doubt he'd report you but I can get why he'd be a bit miffed, he's following the rules, you're not.

Of course not, it is one of my major hates- people that do that and you will notice I sectioned a fair amount of my opening gambit pertaining to this smile

OK so I should have stopped him approaching the beardos dog. I think somehow I need to make it quite unpleasant for him to walk there.... scratchchin

Ho wabout tomorrow, I take my dog on his lead and follow everywhere he goes?

So just leave it is the general concencous? I was expecting a few more keyboard warriors wink

Like I say, I was proud of myself for letting it go. There was a time when I was slightly un-hinged for that kind of situation.

One other thing, not sure if he took a photo when I was walking off or not...

Follow him, if his dog does his business and he doesn't pick up - follow him back home and smear it over the handle of his garage door.

Or just smear some of your own sh!t on it, either way

stick him on the lead, but tie 50ft of rope to it so he has loads of wander room smile

then he can't complain.

My dog is on a lead when it's out for a reason, namely it wants to rip other dogs to shreds.

It really does get my goat when people let their dogs wander up to another that is obviously muzzled and on a lead, they greet you with a smile for all of 5 seconds until they realise their dog is now fighting with my muzzled dog.

Of course it's always my dogs fault, not theirs for being a blind prick.

I've stopped muzzling him when I'm out now as I'm pissed off with him being defenceless when some pillock decides to let his unleash mutt wander over.

To be fair the guy was probably worried about your dog fighting with his.
If that were me, I probably would have reminded you about the sign.

That would be brilliant, some sort of fishing line so he can't really see it. Unlikely before tomorrow though.

Unlikely he will let the dog crap on the field.

You could have told me that and I would have understood. The threat of the council was the bit that really peed me off.

He is thanks, he just gets nervous when inconsiderate people allow their dogs to wander over.

OP, you are clearly being a complete cock in some of your replies, which makes me wonder why you'd complain about someone else being a cock in the first place.

Face it, some people just aren't that sociable, even if they do have a dog.

The fact of the matter is that he was right, and you were wrong. Wanting to exact some kind of 'revenge' just makes you a weapons-grade bellend.

I'd say tt him with a shovel, but i believe that's the next step after complaining by email and throwing a can of redbull at him.

In all seriousness, the Council can't really do much apart from send a bloke round to monitor dogs and see who is on a lead and who isn't (Dog, not owner) as they have no idea who you are, apart from someone with a dog.
