Dog Quartantine rules UK?

Just wondered if any of you knew about dog quarantine rules in the UK?

Our family friend who we got our own dog from took our dogs sisters over to Thailand for 6 years but is now returning to the UK in April with the dogs.

I was under the impression that dogs coming back from a country like Thailand would need at least 6months quarantine but I do not know much about it to be honest. Anyone know?

We are looking forward to a family reunion but unsure when this will be!

My understanding is that it is 6 months from the time that you have had a clear rabies blood test, which, needs to be tested (IIRC) 2 weeks after the rabies jab.

I *think* that the 6 months can be done before you travel provided the animal is clear?

The DEFRA site will explain it although I found it quite confusing when I was trying to understand the Pet Passport scheme.

The pet passport has to be done before the animal leaves the UK, to allow a short stay abroad without having to suffer 6 months quarantine on return.

6 years out of the country will be a quarantine I'm afraid.

Pet passports are accepted when done/ started in other countries but they are mainly European countries. Thailand won't be one of them.

Has she checked the likely price of the dogs stay?

It may sound harsh, but a 6 month stay in quarantine is not cheap and she may well reconsider repatriating the dog. It certainly is not a nice "surprise" bill to be hit with.
