Just wondering as I have 2 ageing pets...

My Cat, Smartie who is 17, with no ailments, bit of arthritis in her back leg but still fit & healthy.

My Goldfish, George who is 27....yes 27 Honest, I'm not kidding!!!

I have also had another cat, Starsky live till 18 & the other fish I got with George lived until 17.

Are these ages normal? I know cats can live a while but can anyone beat 27 for a Goldfish???

Nope its definitely the same one, due to its age it has a unique colour...i.e. its not all gold anymore its turning silver. Think it must be the fish equivalent of going grey!!!

Although a different species of carp, koi can live to over 200 years old, so a 20-odd year goldfish isn't surprising.

My cousin has a tortoise that's been passed down through the family. It's approxiately 80 years old.

Tortoises and parrots are definitely cheating!

Mate's cat died this year at 24 - was bought (nono) as a kitten for her 3rd birthday.

Parrots? How old do they live to? They don't strike me as a long living animal.

Quite the opposite, 80+ is not unusual. smile If you get a macaw as an adult then barring disaster it will outlive you.

I had a hamster that managed to live to the grand old age of four and a half years old if that counts?
