Have just got a small round tank that hangs on the wall - I know I have to wait until it balances itself.
Cold water only but does anyone have any suggestions for 'nice' fish to put in it that aren't goldfish and are 'nice to look at (i.e. colourful)....if it was heated would have prob gone for some Neon Tetra...

Where in the house is it? What's the ambient temperature of the room it's in? Anything like 22 degrees? Stick some neons in and see what happens.
My tropicals lasted two months from Oct to Dec in the lounge with a non functioning heater. No reason they couldn't have gone longer, but then my house is quite warm.

Is it one like this?:
If so, a plastic fish.
Seriously, these things aren't big enough to humanely house a fish, and as they have no filtration, the water would become contaminated with ammonia from the waste. You would basically be condemning your fish to a slow and painful death.

It's in my office and no heat on during the day so ambient temp won't be 22...My tropicals lasted two months from Oct to Dec in the lounge with a non functioning heater. No reason they couldn't have gone longer, but then my house is quite warm.
Similar to the tank above but bigger and has a pump thing in it...
I hope it is a decent size, if not then a plastic fish would be best.
If it is bigger than that pictured above, has a pump AND a filter (which you intend to clean out regularly) then I would suggest White Cloud Mountain Minnows. Hardy, pretty and can withstand a range of temperatures so don't require a heater.

As JFReturns says, white cloud mountain minnows could be a possibility. 22l is not really enough space for them though.
How much surface area is there at the top? If there is a large amount, I'd consider adding a heater and look at a single male Betta Splendens. (Siamese Fighter.) They can cope with smaller tanks, as long as there is sufficient oxygen exchange at the surface, and that they can breath from the surface too. Would need a heater and filter though.

OK, I've decided to go for a heater now.......
But have a quick question as they're all the same price....
Do I go for the one that is nearest the size tank I have, i.e. one suitable for up to 25L (when the tank is 22l) or the one up for tanks up to 55 litres ?
Don't want them getting too hot but equally want to make sure it's up to the job ?

If the 'pump' is actually some sort of filter (as opposed to an air pump) I'd go for either a betta or a few ember tetra's.
Regardless of what you go for, before you set up the tank do some reading up on cycling. Quite a good guide here:

More dumb questions from me.
Water has now been in week so guessing it is prob OK to start adding some fish....but will take some water to the fish shop for them to test anyway.
Have also got a thermometer going.
Set to 26C which seems to be the consensus for tropical fish (i.e. neon tetra) to be happy ?
Have put it al on this morning - how long realistically should it take to heat up ? By the end of the day - 22L tank and heater suitable for 25L - assuming it will shut itself off and back on again to maintain temp but not certain...
