Can anyone identify this ? It is not a wasp and was hanging around a pond in the summer

Different kind of wasp?

Its probably a hover fly, there are lots of types.

Not all hoverflies have flat abdomens, so it could still be a hoverfly. Only other insect I can come up with is a Yellowjacket, but they are native to america I think.

I concur it's a Hoverfly, they are harmless btw

It's neither a hoverfly or a wasp. It's a sawfly, probably Tenthredo scrophulariae
