Was going to post about my missing cat, who had not been seen since 29th Dec, and was hopng to get stories of others who've been missing for ages and came back!!

But I didn't need to as he came home this morning woohoo he's tired, hungry and skinny but otherwise looks ok, going to take him for a checkup tomorrow as he has a slight limp.

Would still like to hear of other stories though of cats that have been lost and found, and how long and what you did to try and find them.
As soon as he's well enough I think I'll probably go get him microchipped now, just for peace of mind.

Ghengis often goes away for days at a time.

His current record is 15 days.

The wife worries but he's a survivor !

aww he's gorgeous smile what do you do when he does go missing, or do you just wait for him to come back if you know he does it often.

This is the 2nd time Charlie has gone missing since we moved to Surrey in October, first time I thought he was just out exploring as we had only recently moved, that was 4 nights only though, this time it was 16 nights, but he looks skinny so I'm sure he has been locked in somewhere.

Glad to hear cat is back. Our cat is only 10 months old and only just beginning to venture outside over the past couple of months. He was ok unsupervised in the back garden but a few heart in mouths moments followed by chasing him down the street when he recently leapt over the fence into the cul de sac then into another garden. I think he freaked himself out by the sounds he was making! At the moment he is scared of cars so if out the front and a car starts up he will dart back to the front door.

I think cats have a great sense of direction and quite quickly know where their home is. When we moved we were going to keep them in for a week but he escaped on the second day without us realising. A short while later we heard a noise from the front door and he was waiting there for us to let him in hehe

Phew, glad he's back.

My girl Neko went missing for 5 days May last year. Went out every day looking for her, put 200 leaflets through letterboxes, then about 3am on the 5th day she woke me up in her normal way of jumping on my chest and meowing in my face to be fed.

Coat was dirty as anything and she'd lost a bit of weight, but otherwise ok.

My lad Ben tends to go wandering for 2-3 days at a time during the summer. Each time he comes back smelling of old lady perfume so he's clearly moonlighting with a friendly old somewhere. hehe

We tend to leave a back window open and food out for him - thinking he will just come home for food.

The wife thinks it's Ghengis coming in for food - but we have discovered at least one other local moggie comes in and helps himself !!!

I'm pretty sure Ghengis is half Scottish wildcat and it in his genes to stay out and about when the weather's OK.

We were both pretty worried after day 7 last time - nice when he comes back though smile

He probably found himself locked in someone's garage, they've been away for a new year holiday etc. Glad he's back home.

They do keep you on your toes. One of our's, Bentley, went missing for about four days last year while we were having a new cooker installed. He's not really an outdoor cat and it was really cold at the time, snow and ice etc, plus there a lot of foxes around so we were pretty worried.

Anyway, after phoning around vets, animal shelters, posting leaflets, searching neighbours gardens etc with no luck I come home from work one night to find my wife lying in the hallway with her ear to the ground swearing she's just heard meowing. Turns out he'd somehow managed to sneak through the smallest of gaps possible behind the cooker when it was being replaced (and when no-one was looking) and got himself stuck under the house, I had looked under there at first, but couldn't see anywhere for him to go. I had to pull up the carpet and floorboards to get him out in the end! Little bugger! I was glad to get him back though.

awwwww sounds like he had a lucky escape, could have been a lot worse I guess, unfortunately cats are very inquisitive, and gets them into all sorts of trouble I guess!

yes such a nice feeling, especially after almost giving up hope he might come back, although in the back of your mind you are still really hoping he will hehe

Luckly enough my cat has never done that he is always back by the night, he did go missing for a day once but kept on hearing him meowing but couldnt see him anyway then it would stop, got up the next day and heared him meowing when i went past the understairs cupboard opened the door and ive never seen him run that quickly out of cupbored and out of the house before, he has also hid in my garage before up in the storage in the roof and knocked a box of and on to my car an mgb gt which i werent happy so i always make sure he isnt in there before i shut the door. Anyway great news your cat is back home.

Glad to hear cat turned up smile

My old cat Holly went missing for 2 weeks when I lived in staffs, I put out a notice and had a call from a woman a mile away to said she had seen her hanging around but had ran away when she had approached her. Turned up hungry and skinny. Coincidently she did not come home; she went to two doors down, who my previous cat had decided to adopt when we got Holly
She did it again, think this one was about a month/six weeks, we thought we would never see her again, in she waltzed a little skinny, took her to vets who said she had developed kidney problems and would not last long.
Three years later...
She spent a lot of time out after that- no matter the weather, Dad made her a shelter out of wood, the next day she got in it and never came back out frown

Spyker went missing for 9 weeks a few years back! I was going mad, leaflets, posters, ringing the council etc, and we went to Le Mans in the middle so I had my Dad on daily cat watch, then one day he just ambled in like nothing had happened and demanded food! He might disappear for a night now but is always back by the morning normally with a prezzie!

Hi Ali wavey well I cried a lot and walked the streets calling for him lots too, didn't want to be too upset infront of the kids though, and kept hoping he was going to come home.

Nice to hear of other stories of cats that have come home smile Should have started this thread earlier and I might not have worried so much!

Took Charlie to the vets and he's fine apart from being hungry and skinny, think he's glad to be home now, and has been a bit wary of going out!!

My old cat (maine coon) would often go missing for a week or so at a time. A couple of times he came back smelling of skunk (the animal, he wasn't chilling out), that was not pleasant, nor was bathing him.

One of our cats now seems to think that heading into garages and/or sheds is a great idea. She got stuck in a neighbour's shed a few years ago, we had posters up and someone called to say there was a cat in a shed of a person who was on holiday. She'd been missing for about 9 days by that point so I broke down the shed door and got my cat back - then left a note with our address and number so we could pay for a new shed door - and a bottle of wine. Didn't hear from them though.
