i'v got an aprox 18 month old male rat that had a bad turn today.
he suddenly started making jerky movements and then seemed to be paralised for a few seconds before seeming to slowly come back to normality.
he's never done anything like this before and for a while it looked like he was dying.
its like he had a stroke or something but he seems ok for now.
local vets know bugger all about rats so i thought i would ask here.

Make sure you inform the DVLA, as he shouldn't drive for a year wink

thanks for the link.
seems quite a common problem in some rats it seems.

he's chilling out in his hammock like nothing ever happened now!

May be a slow heart rate. My old dog had similar symptoms and I thought he was a goner. When we went to the vets , she diagnosed a slow heart rate and gave us millophelyn (sp?) which speeded it back up again. Worked wonders. H elived on another 5 years with this treatment.

Oh they are so lovely! I especially like the pic where he/she is reaching out of the cage. I had two who were absolutely brilliant when I was a teenager, so clever. Mine were sort of free range - they had a cage but only went in it when I was out (if I hadn't taken them with me, they used to come to college with me!) when I was at home they just used to roam about - funniest was when I was eating tea and one of them scampered up the table leg and knicked some food off my plate then ran off!!
