Very vocal cat
Discussion
One of my cats has become very vocal recently, like walking across the front room meowing, at first I thought he was in pain or something but prodding him all over reveals nothing and if you "meow" when he's doing it he meows back, he's always been a bit vocal but it has increased quite a bit over the last 4-6 months. He is about 7yrs old and is eating/drinking/crapping/weeing normally.
I've had vocal cats in the past but he takes the prize for most vocal.
Should I be worried?

Our cat usually will only get vocal when needing attention (read: hungry).
But over Christmas we were all playing a family boardgame which requires lots of simultaneous shouting and calling from all players, and the cat joined in, meowing the whole time. It was quite funny, but in no way helpful to you at all. Sorry.

Have you checked his eyes?
For what? His eyes work ok as he's always looking out of the window spying on other cats/birds.One of ours has got more and more outspoken lately - basically sitting outside the bedroom or office door and shouting until he gets whatever it is that he wants. Trying not to reinforce the behaviour, but he is a persistent little sod. Well, persistent great fat sod, actually. If he starts up in the middle of the night now, he gets shut in another part of the house.
We've got 3 Bengals.
They all meow a lot and very differently to tell you about things. Or demand food.
Link, our 7 year old, meows loudly to gret us when we get in. Demand attention or food. He also gets very loud when he wants to hump something (which he gets all wrong due to being under-equipped).
The two 'kittens' (5 & 4 kg respectively, 9 months old)...
Pip makes all sorts of chirrup and burble sounds ranging from the common 'hello, it's morning, stroke me' to oddly questining noises when he sees something new.
Lily sounds like a goat and usually sits in the bathroom bleating for us to turn on the bath tap.
They've all gone through different levels of chattiness and often seem to react to outside smells like foxes, etc.
One thing about cats is that they don't always meow when prodded on a painful spot - they have quite a high pain threshold according to our vet. If in doubt have your cat checked out. Normally you'll spot some change in their behaviour - not eating, toilet problems, listlessness - though.

We have a 3 year old and she is constantly making noises. If you speak to her she chirps and yelps back. Miaows are normally when she brings you the toy she is playing with or she wants food.
The last cat we had was very quiet, and only normally made noise when she had caught something.

My mums cat Tom is very vocal, he mainly stays inside now so he is constantly meowing when not asleep, If they settle down with him, if anyone moves he starts again. He has also started being very 'needy' at the same time
Health ok apart from a flea allergy
Think you just get very vocal cats, Tom is quite annoying though

She's not been for "the snip" yet, and she's constantly horny, presenting herself to anyone that comes into the house, and meowing, and rolling about on her back constantly.
Our girl-cat Lily does this (thee tarting around) and she was spayed a good while back so it's instinct as well as hormones. She doesn't call though, which is good!Flintstone said:

Been there. Used to have four of the wee beasts and the noise was...interesting. Down to one now but she still loves a good natter. Oh, and only drinks from a running tap.Gassing Station | All Creatures Great & Small | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
