saw some trackie bottomed chav walking a fierce looking fighting dog earlier today , it had some harness thing on like saddle bags ? im guessing it was wieghts to make the dog harder than the others chavs dogs ?

is that right ? do they make such things? or did it have 20 b&h and his lighter in it ?

What makes you think it was a "fighting" dog. It may have been a "rescue" dog carrying some Brandy.

You probably wouldn't know a fighting dog If It ran up and savaged your face as everybody seems to think these 'evil' dogs do.. Christ!

Friends of mine use them to tire their dogs out more on a short walk.
Also another is a keen hiker so the dog carries their own water etc.

Poor buggers D

I have to say, I'm with the OP.. I see certain dogs and immediately think they'll just rip your face off if you look at them. Not a fan.

And another one here. As soon as you see the brainless moron walking the Staffie I can never work out which I object to most. Best solution would be to ban both IMO.

It'll undoubtedly be some trendy 'must have' that all similarly useless chavs of that ilk will subsequently purchase with their dole cheque.

I doubt trendy, more like the 'must have' for the 'must look hard as nails' crowds known to me as local yobbo's!

Ohh god, how narrowminded you are! I've grown up around Staffs and would never be without one..
Half the Dogs you see on the news In attacks aren't even Pitbulls or Staffs yet the media still class them as 'staff type' or 'pit type'

And last time I looked Pitbulls/Staffs were nowhere near the top of the attack statistics..

Do a search for Doggie Backpacks..... We have one by outward hound, has weight in it to tire the dog out more easily - doesn't stop the energetic one though, she still runs at full pelt the whole time...

Yep - dog packpacks. Not exactly in common usage but neither are they unheard of. Used to give dogs a greater workout, or just used to carry stuff such as water around.

Tell me, what breed was this 'fighting dog' ? And what was it fighting when you saw it?

i second that, though not owned a staff myself iv known more than enough, cracking dogs, its this sort of narrowmindedness that gets certain breeds an unjust reputation,my scruffy cute little 13 year old terrier is worse behaved than most staffs iv come across, last i saw it was labradors and collies at the top of the bite list, but you dont see those getting bad press as there seen as the good family dog instead of the working dogs that they were bred for. Bad owners make bad dogs, regardless of breed

That's just due to the fact there are a lot of Labradors/collies compared to most other breeds shirley? Your 13 year old terrier might be badly behaved (many of the little buggers are, I know!) but worst you'd get might be your trouser leg ripped, if a Staffie cross handled by a Chav goes off on one, you, or sadly more likely your terrier are likely to get very badly hurt. Usual thing though, its the owners not the breed itself, same as other breeds which have been previously popularised and therefore owned by a significant number of complete morons (think Rottweilers in the 80's/90's).

im pretty sure the figures show there are as many staffs as there are labs, collies etc, although less are actually registered with the kennel club and it is expected that the number of unregistered dogs may even outnumber the registered dogs, but regardless of breed its still the owners who make bad dogs.
my dog has been attacked and badly hurt by a couple of staffs in the past but then has also been bitten by alsations, spaniels, and various other dogs (though he does give a good go back!) this doesnt mean that staffs are bad in general, if anything there one of the more 'people friendly' dogs i come across. As a teenage i did some voluntary work at a local cat and dog rehoming centre, there was one dog in particular who was let out to just wander around the place by herself, she was a staff, and even after years of abuse by previous owner was still the friendliest dog you could meet, if i recall the nastiest dog in there at the time was collie/poodle.

We had a Rottweiler in the family for 5 years after we saved him from the provious owner (bit of a 'hardman' who had the dog for its image)...

I now feel loyal to Rottweiler's and they are the dog I will have, time and time again. He was easily the most friendly, loving, caring, loyal and protective dog I have ever come across. I had friends who were scared of dogs after paper round attacks as youngsters (lol) and our big lump of a dog manage to convince them that dogs aren't all vicious!!

My OH's brother has a Staffy and a Chocolate Lab and they are both as daft and soft as each other, the Staff probably more loyal than the Lab.

I used to get abuse thrown at me both verbal and physical when we walked our Rottweiler, I had things thrown at me, people would shout abuse as soon as they saw us because I had a 'Devil Dog' who was going to 'Kill our children'. It was horrible and all because the press make things seem much worse than they are! I know it is very sad that two Rottweiler's killed a baby and one attacked a woman and scared her for life etc.. but 'evil dogs' get more bad press than rapists and drug dealers... Just shows what a sad state this country is in....
