This shouldn't be happening.....should it?

About 4 months ago our Chi had the snip.
Anyway, over the last couple of weeks, he has begun humping again. He always used to hate being watched so would pleasure himself in private and unseen.
Last night I managed to spy on him and he definitely ejaculated (and then licked up...yuck!) after vigorous activity. I'm as close to 100% sure as I can be that this isn't normal....
The vet has messed it up I reckon; either that or he's a mutant Chi with regenerative powers.
Surgery opens tomorrow so I plan to give them a call to take a look; just wondered what you guys thought?

It can depend upon how old the dog was when snipped, but can take 6 months or so for them to lose the "urge" but if humping was a habit, they might not lose that - Our male was still trying to hump the bh about 5 months after the op - and what I have said to you is what the vet told me........
Dogs don't usually have the snip they are castrated. This means it's very unlikely (though not impossible if vet didn't cut far enough down the testicle) that it was not done properly. There is probably no sperm in the ejaculate.
As said a more mature dog may to continue to hump due to habit even after neutering.
Any chance you could hold off phoning the vets for a couple of days, they are going to be very busy with post holiday poorly pets tomorrow!
Still will be interesting to know either way. If they think there is a possibility they'll probably have to do a hormone blood test or check for sperm, not sure tbh.

It's a dominance thing I believe but does really take some explaining when the grandparents visit...
I am pretty sure your grandparents know what is going on Gassing Station | All Creatures Great & Small | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
