How much mercury to kill a dog?
Discussion
Nothing sinister I'm afraid!
The O/H dropped a glass thermometer in the kitchen this morning. The mercury came out in tiny droplets on the kitchen floor. I brushed up what I could see, but the drops are so tiny I am worried I may have missed some. What if my dog licks something up and there's a little drop I missed there?
Anyone know?

1) Make a small hole in the center of the kitchen floor, and tilt the house up to make the mercury run into the hole. Takes a lot of concentration, this one, and will only work if your house is free to tilt in all directions (ie. not snug up to a garage or tree and not directly below a dual carriageway)
2) Is mercury magnetic?
Blu-tac a magnet to the dog's nose. That way, if he tries to lick some up, it'll jump onto the magnet, and he'll be safe.
The above advice assumes that neither magnets nor Blu-tac are poisonous to dogs. For example, don't use a chocolate-covered magnet (or chocolate-covered Blu-tac) because apparently that is poisonous to dogs. Although probably less poisonous than mercury. Perhaps if your OH had dropped a Crunchie instead? Possible idea for next time, that.

I'd delete this thread in case the RSPCA find it and you're charged with first, second and third degree murder.
Can you kill a dog three times? I know you can fry a chip twice. And beans. So perhaps you can fry a dog twice too. But three times?Even frying it twice would probably leave a trace of mercury, so I'll stick to beans and chips thanks.

so it's easily possible to kill it three times

Vac the whole floor
Wash floor with a very porous sponge
Wash again
Vac again
Get brownie points from other half and an xmas off washing up.
RIsk is you do too good a job...
Vacuuming mercury is an extremely bad idea - it tends to disperse it in extremely fine droplets and vapour. Breathing it in is bad.Wash floor with a very porous sponge
