Next door have a lovely cat, however they never ever let the poor little thing inside, even in the weather we are currently having, the cat is often to be seen hanging around various other houses in the neighbourhood, including ours where there are three dogs who would love to eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Is it worth doing 'something'?

I've no idea what that something would be, they do leave the cat food but apart from that seem to offer it no real affection.

I have no idea what to advise I'm sorry. Poor little bugger. What about suggesting to them that if they insist on not letting him in, at very least buy him a nice cosy little kennel/bed thing with plenty of warm stuff in it. Or, ask if you can buy him one. Sounds a little insulting if they take it the wrong way but that's got to be the better of 2 evils..?! Really of course depends on the mentality of the owners, for which unfortunately I do not have high hopes.

A nice idea but I really don't think they would take to well to it frown

It's really not nice to find him huddled in the bush by the front door waiting to get in our front door!

You could hide some sort of enclosure containing some old blankets/clothes in your own bush?

WTF is wrong with people? Its like -10 Deg or so outside.... makes me mad that people cannot look after their own pets properly.

It would be nice to get their locks changed and see how they like spending the evening outside. mad

OP, I'd feel a lot happier if I knew something was changing for the little fella. I can't think what that might be apart from my suggestion (?) If you want, pm me your address and I'll order something for you/him/her. You will probably have to do some remedial waterproofing ie put some bin bags or similar around it(?) but I'm sure something can be done?

Our newest is settling in nicely now, but she came in after the first cold night of the last spell, we haven't let her out since.

TBH, the size she was, she'd be dead now if we hadn't.

I know some cats are hardy, but your neighbours are taking the piss. I'd have had "words" a long time before now.

Just a thought, are you sure he is theirs? Maybe they just feel sorry enough for him that they leave food out? Regardless, my suggestions stand.

I will assume him to be male until advised otherwise.

One of my old neightbours did this. We just let the cat into our house and looked after it and told the neighbour about it afterwards. She was ok with it really. At another house a cat just appeared and kept playing in our garden and garage and wandering in when the doors were open. It wasn't until some weeks later that it belonged to a neighbour a few doors away. I used to bring it back but the cat would always return! On the first neighbour mentioned we did ring the RSPCA for advice.

I think the OP mentioned he has dogs that wouldn't appreciate the cat.

Nice stories though folks smile

I've put 2x blanket-in-box-in-plastic bag in the carport, plus big helping of cat biscuits - there's an extremely friendly kitten/‘teenaged’ cat on my street doing the same - actually now decided that she's spending the night in my kitchen if I see her out again in weather this cold, it's just not fair. Why on earth do some people have animals?

It's worth bearing in mind that all animals will have an extremely hard time finding non-frozen water to drink in this weather and will be at serious risk of coming across antifreeze if they drink car runoff - consider putting some slightly warm (won't freeze as fast) water in a non-metal bowl out for any local critters of whatever species.
