Mrs envy's cat went to the vet last week and was found to have conjunctivitis in an eye.

He's had drops for the last five days but it hasn't cleared up, although he's stopped rubbing his eye - he's lost a little fur as a result.

Will it take a few days before it clears up or does he need another trip to the vet for some antibiotics?

The vet said that the conjunctivitis might be caused by the rubbing which was brought on by something else - anyone with any ideas?

Really you should be seeing some improvemnet every day. The fact that he has stopped rubbing is good, Really if not looking much much better in another couple of days he needs to be seen again (the drops should've had antibiotics in them but sometimes systemic antibiotics are better)

I would say cats don't often just get conjunctivitis (like dogs do) there can often be an underlying reason eg scratch on eye, viral infection etc. I would hope the vet checked for an ulcer on the eye. Does the eye itself look normal. Is there is a sign of cloudiness on the surface of the eye? If yes he needs seeing today.

cheers

he had a white spot on his lower eyelid which has now become a grey line although that could just be the result of him losing fur

the vet checked both eyes and his eyes are fine and clear, there's no discharge from either one

Hopefully just a scratch on the lid that caused him to rub his eye so no probs to the eye itself, as said if not 100% in another couple days re check would be a good idea.
