Interesting smelling stuff coming out my cat.....
Discussion
So, the other night myself and the missus were fast asleep, and little Lizzie hops in under the duvet - all is fine. She is nice and warm and cosy, purring away.
We get woken up at 5am by an almighty stench.
On the bedsheets is something wet, with a little brown in it - it smells very pungent.
It's not cat poop as far as I can tell. It smells more like cat territory spray.
This is the second time this has happened now, both times in our bedroom.
Any ideas what is going on here? I rang the vet and they said it was unusual unless the cat was stressed or there had been major change - neither of these are true.

Sounds like her anal glands to me, cats do not get problems as frequently as dogs but they can still get full and end up leaking some esp if e.g. she woke up with a start causing her to release her glands (they are used for scent marking and often empty in a fear response). The smell is pungent and can be a bit fish like in smell.
I'd suggest a vet take a look and see if they need emptying. My cat has done this once before and his glands were full. Not as easy to empty cats glands but is possible.

The Pug gets this. We take him once a month to have them "emptied" which involves....well, it's rather involved. Mrs C was determined to do it, but just couldn't!I'd suggest a vet take a look and see if they need emptying. My cat has done this once before and his glands were full. I wouldn't want to have to do it to a cat. Actually, I didn't realise that Cats had them. Actually again, I didn't realise Dogs had them till Mushrif started smelling of fish!
