The cat flap I have at the moment causes such a draught, has anybody got any good ideas on how to reduce the draught or suggestions for alternative cat flaps that aren't as draughty (it's a staywell one if that helps)

We have one of these http://www.sureflap.co.uk/ and there's very little draught comes through.

It has the added bonus of never letting the neighbours' cats in as well. Great bit of kit and worth the money.

ETA: probably not suitable if you have a very large cat.

We have just installed a sureflap but it seems to have more of a gap round it than the old one, a bog standard one. Am I missing a draught excluder accessory?

No, there's no draught excluder accessory as far as I know - maybe we're just lucky with location etc.

OP: The most basic staywell flaps have bog all draught protection.

Have you got one of these?

If so, imho it's crap smile

We replaced it with one of these:

which has an additional cover on the inside which acts as a draught excluder smile

I've got the one in the second link - get draughts around the smaller door (love the warning on that advert about small children).

Not sure the sureflap one will work with my cat, he is over 7Kg.

You're right, he probably wouldn't fit. My cat is only just over 5kg but has to squeeze his way through.

Sureflap told me (back in March) that they are "developing a larger version", but one has yet to come to light.

Have emailled Sureflap about our draught problem and they are sending us out an updated version which now includes a draught excluder, great customer service.

As for the poster with a 7kg cat, they would definately struggle to get through the Sureflap. Our mog is 6kg but is long and sleek and he only just gets through! Any more of a belly or wider shoulders and he'd be getting cold!

I can echo your comments about Sureflap's customer service, most excellent.

We had one of the earlier Sureflaps which had a sliding control for the flap door (to set in, out, in/out etc) and by chance we found that it had a slight design flaw which meant that the cat could lock himself out by knocking the control with his back paw on his way out. I emailed Sureflap, and 2 days later a replacement fascia turned up in the post with the newer rotary control on it. Totally free of charge.
