Last night walking in the part my little working cocker got spooked by something, can only think it was another dog walker with a torch and flashing lights etc...

He ran the half mile back to the front gate near where we live and crossed the busy main road, only to be hit by a VW Bora at speed frown

He is alive, but is banged up pretty badly for such a wee man frown looks like 2 broken legs (front and hind on right side) and other stuff, they will find out more when they xray him this morning.

Worst part of it he was hit less than 5 meters away from where my car was parked up and was almost home safe.

Driver of the car was a hero and parked his car in the road to stop all traffic while he moved charlie to the kerbside and threw a blanket over him, he managed to knock on a couple of houses and call the police. Will make sure he is not out of pocket and knows I appreciate his help and I in no way blame him.

I arrived about 3-4 minutes after charlie had been hit and just took him straight up to the emergency vets where he was taken care of.

Spoken to the vets last night and this morning, he is stable but his breathing is laboured so they need to check that out before they look at the fractures so its xrays and blood tests today.

Absolutely gutted as he is a great wee man and a great dog, he is fine off the lead and is the most friendly dog I have ever known, was just a fright I think he had.... so much for him being a guard dog and protecting me eh? biggrin

He is only a year old so should heal well god willing.

Dont know why I have posted this thread but Charlie boy I am crossing everything for you my wee mate!

Fingers and paws crossed here. Maybe the breathing problem is just due to stress?

Thanks for the well wishes

seems he has clear chest and abdomen which is good news biggrin

Bad news is he has broken both his right side legs and his pelvis is broken on the left side so he has a series of operations to look forward to. But hopefully nothing life threatening for him

What a horrible thing to have happened frown

Sounds as though Charlie will be OK though, even if he does end up a touch bionic smile

Can I just say well done for not blaming the driver (I am not sure I could do so even though I know full well he had no chance!) and I wish Charlie all the best.

I would add that dogs are incredibly hardy little feckers, it's amazing the types of injuries they can endure and recover from, so I am sure he'll be fine. Perhaps not exactly as he was last week, but still not so different as to make a difference to his life.

Is he insured?

Poor wee chappie, I don't know how a spaniel can sit still long enough for a photo, never mind to heal. Lots of big hugs and best wishes from us while he's going through it all.

So sorry too hear about Charlies accident, it sounds like he's in good hands at the mo. He has a long road ahead and there will be ups and downs but stay positive, with time and the correct care and support he should get there and cope amazingly well when better, good luck and wishing Charlie all the very best for a good recovery.

Hope he makes a full recovery. I had a lucky escape a couple of years ago when my Springer lost sight of me and in his desperate attempt to find me decided to run across the main road back to the car park and then back again when I wasn't there. Luckily he made it across both times unscathed, for which I am extremely grateful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and Charlie ( and your wallet if he isn't insured)

Morning

Thanks all for the well wishes

Managed to go visit him last night with my daughter who was quite upset but was a lot happier when she managed to get a cuddle with him.

Charlie decided to rest his head in my hand for the duration of our visit

Snapped a quick photo of him and he looks a lot better than I would have though considering what he has been through. But look how swollen his poor paw is frown (you cant really see the rest just the paw was one thing I noticed on the photo)

He goes down for surgery on his pelvis and hind leg today so fingers crossed they get that done without complications.

Poor little sod.
At least the driver stopped and looked after him.
Many wouldn't have.

Fingers crossed for a full recovery.
