My bruno (collie/lab cross) has cracked/peeling paw pads. It can be painful for him.

He doesnt run on tarmac, as i have told him off in past. he loves to run all time. and his paw pad can be dry sometimes.

Is there anything i could to "toughen" up his paw pads ?

I believe surgical spirit applied daily can help. Obviously not on the sore cracked pad.

I have just found this though, no idea how good it is but it looks like it's designed for the job you're after

My dogs often get cut pads, especially during hard frost. They can take ages to heal as they are always opening them up again.
A Tesco baby sock (4 pairs for £1 the last time I bought some) and a turn of insulating tape works wonders while out working.
It gives some protection and the dog goes onto "Three and a half wheel drive".
Healing time is reduced to just a few days.
Two notes of caution. The insulating tape should be only tight enough to hold the sock on and no more. Take the sock off after exercise.

I have no idea if this is good or bad but I know my late grandfather used to put Vaseline on dry/cracked pads.

There is a product called Paw Wax which may help prevent sore pads?
