Discussion
We're getting two female kittens next week and are looking for naming inspiration.
My son (4) wants to call them Ben (his name) and Beth (his baby sisters name)
My wife wants to call them Violet and Pearl or something daft like that.
I quite like:
Mrs Doyle
Mrs Norris
Helga
Phoebe
Betty
Heidi
Scully
Laverne
They're all-black scruffy things (grand-father was a scottish wildcat who had his way with a black farm-mog!)
Any suggestions?

Our first two Bengals are Max and Link. Max died last year and we got two new ones, boy and girl, to keep Link company.
Pip and Lily (she's a Snow so the name works well.
One thing to point out is to keep the names simple and different.
Max and Link knew their own names and would respond to only their own name.
Of the two new ones we've found Link and Lily to be a bit tto similar and they both respond to each other's names!
Pip is a bit thick and has yet to do more than respond to the noise of food being prepared, he hasn't taken to his name yet.
Both Pip and Lily had different names from the breeder but they really didn't work. Cats should not have double-barrelled names!

I never name animals until they've been around a while, then name them for a character trait or give them a name that suits them.
Slippy got his name because he had a ridge of fur down his back that made him look like a joke slipper. Lola looked a Lola, but she quickly became "Pops" or Lo-pops because she had a habit of sitting up on her back legs every time she stopped moving. Guzzi because he guzzled everything put in front of him (he's a lot more selective now, though). Black Cat because he's a biggish, mean, moody, yes black cat. Peep because she'd peep from behind whatever she was hidden by, and her first meow was a peep.

We have Ferdie who has become Mister Ferd, Ferd the turd, Ferdenblarf (?), Ferdinand etc. Then there is Hugo who has variously become Huge, Hugs, Huggly Buggly Hug the Thug. And finally Murphy who is also Murph the Smurph, Bowling Ball, Conker (he's rather round and brown) Smurphy and Mr Murph. Whatever name you choose it will probably change or vary a bit according to behaviour and whether or not your as mad as us! Our suggestions would be LouLou, Trixie, Fifi or Pickle.
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.
