Puppy question
Discussion
Strange how these things happen. We have found a puppy. Not from either of the two breeders on the shortlist as they were both rejected (in one case having seen puppies - nothing to do with them). Anyway We found a lovely family and all the boxes were ticked.
The puppy will come home at 8 weeks having had his first set of vaccinations. 10 days later we are due to go to my parents house (for Christmas) for one day and one night. They no longer have a dog (he died 2-3 years ago of old age). Now given the puppy will not be fully vacinated by this point - is this something I should not be doing.

Very low risk of picking up a virus if going from your house to car to their house (may be travel sick!).
How secure is their garden?
Pup may suffer some stress due to change of environments so take familiar things invest in Dap spray and plug in dap as long as you are careful to consider pups needs it is ok. Do know of a vets local to your parents just in case.
Pups character may influence your decision. Hopefully pup you choose will not be a timid/ nervy type which will help.
Hope it works out, look forward to seeing pics

Good thoughts chaps. My parents live one mile from the vets who we used for all our dogs and my horses so I am happy with them.
Puppy is going to be crate trained so I thought I would take the crate with me - so home from home. Lots of land there so provided we are with puppy all the time he is unlikely to make it off their land.
DAP diffuser is a great idea.
I will do pics once I have chosen the puppy - going back in 2 weeks to do this. So we will see what pup's character is like too.
I have a list of things to buy and I am currently working out where to get it all. I only have two bits of fencing to sort at our house - including our 5 bar gate - going to have to put wire on and under it I think. I also need to find a good vet here - my equine vets are possibly too far away for dogs. We have a vet for the cat but we haven't seen them for a while. All my friends use a different vet for their dogs so that's worth looking into.

OK. He will stay in the garden then - it's only one day so I am not too worried.
I assume foxes carry all sorts of nasties. Our garden is hedged in (and there is chicken wire under the hedge) - it's fairly secure but I couldn't guarantee that a fox couldn't jump the 4ft gate in if they really wanted. (it's never happened so far and I think we would know as the gate is next to the chickens).

They do, you'd be so unlucky if anything happened though in a garden. There is conflicting adv re: pups going o/s at all when not fully vacc but I can honestly say in all the years I have dealt with poorly unvacc pups they have not got ill because they went into a clean, safe garden. (Unless it's because they've eaten stuff they shouldn't but they do that indoors aswell!)I assume foxes carry all sorts of nasties.
