I was under the impression spiders in the UK were harmless??????
I got three bites along the top of my sock, first thought was a midge bites, but it's too cold for them at this time of year. After a closer inspection I found a dead spider the size of my pinky nail inside my trousers.
Never did like spider, allways thought they were a bit sleekit !!

I was bitten by a spider when I was very young, and it was at that point that the fear / loathing of the ghastly creatures kicked in. My Dad was adament for years that this couldn't have happened, until he grabbed a tresspassing arachnid about two years ago, and recieved a rather nasty bite for his trouble. Shudder!

... sleekit ...
Ian,It's going to be very much a minority in here who understand the meaning of sleekit.

Spiders? Bah. I have an infestation of ladybirds.
Have to catch at least 10 a day inside my living room.
Cutest infestation ever.

Other than that I just let them get on with it. They just chill out in groups of 10 in the corners of the room.

I've never been bitten by a UK spider...but have been bitten twice by those little buggers - and it really hurts!Have to catch at least 10 a day inside my living room.

Not had a bite yet and I've been hand feeding them to a spider for a few days now.
All spiders will bite, some are ultra-aggressive but most will only bite when sufficiently provoked.
Either way, there aren't really any spiders native to the UK that can deliver a medically significant bite. Not even my tarantulas (OK, they're not native, but you get the idea) will cause much of a problem if they bite me, it'd just be like a bee sting.

By the way I once read that ALL spiders, no matter how small, can break human skin!!
sadly whoever wrote it was lying, however. or stupid!yeah ladybirds do bite..... don't think they can quite do adult skin, but soft kiddie/girlie hands no trouble.....you have to p*ss em off a bit.....
there are quite a lot of false widows in the UK now which seem a bit aggresive - tends to be what people are getting bitten by. The ones that actually can have a good go if they want (wolf spiders) never seem to.
