Other than replacing the carpet and underlay is there a way to get rid of the smell of cat wee?
One of Mrs Saleen's kittens has taken it upon himself after 6 months to start p*ssing behind the sofa!
Had a search on the net and found one way using vinegar, bicarb of soda and peroxide, just wondered if anyone on here has a tried and tested method?

You could try cutting your nose off, and if you want visitors you will probably have to remove their noses too.

Not peroxide!

Get a specialist cleaner from the pet shop & a proper carpet cleaner

Put tin foil over the area, taped down, they don't like the feel of it on their paws or the splashback wink

I think white vinegar helps. There is also a product you can get from on-line pet stores which removes the smell.

If you can put bi carb or baking soda (check which!) down between floor/underlay/carpet. Vacuum after 24 hrs and repeat, it drys it out and neutralises the smell. Mix 50/50 water and white vinegar in one of those spray things and spray area. Cats avoid it and it help neutralise things. This helped to sort out the problem when our old cat took a shining the corner behind the tv!

We tried everything but even though we couldn't smell it any more the cat obviously could and kept going back there to pee.

We had to rip the carpet up and replace it whole together with underlay.

Changed for wooden flooring then after it started going pee again on the wood we ripped that section up about a year later - had gone right through the joints, soaked into the wood and saturated the underlay.

Was one of the most awful times in our time having pets - the smell was rancid.

Ours were trained as well but one got caught short and went behind the telly. Did not find it at first, smelt it though. Turned out she had a problem that did not giver her time to go out (and meant she was not long for this world). Put a tray there but had to cut the carpet out after trying the various potions.
