Hi PH.. we've 2 lovely greyhounds, and very happy ownership.
I always used to think they stayed skinny thanks to an amazing metabolism, now a few years on I think they just crap a LOT... like 1 kg in the mouth = 0.9kg out the other end. They're getting on a bit, and looking a wee bit skinny I think. We know slim & ribby is correct for the bread, now the chap is a bit spiny, so like to up their weights by a 1 kilo or so. Thing is, it seems if I feed them more, they just crap more.. pointless. They're both on high grade kibble (used to feed raw, but chap didnt always get on with it)
Any seasoned owners have any thoughts?

We have a greyhound. I was told it comes down to the carb / protein mix in the kibble.

We go for a 50 / 50 mix where as a lot of people tend to go with a higher protein diet. As they’re not training they don’t need all the protein.

What ratio are you feeding him?

I may switch him to 60/40 for a bit as he has been injured and is getting a bit .. tubby. We can only see 2 ribs and not the 3-4.

They've been on Millie Woolfheart's 'Endurance mix' for a while, but we've just ordered their 'Forerunner' kibble based on their advice now.

We use Millie's too, Agility mix (50/50) with the wet as a topper, ours is 5 years old and was fine until he had 6-8 weeks off for injuries. I am considering switching him to Highland (60/40) for the next few months. But I'll ring them first, they are very helpful.

We've had 5 greyhounds so far and have fed the last three on Ardent Grange, with tinned food added (half a tin per dog per meal). They also have an oil supplement which helps keep the coats in good condition.

They've all kept weight on, without any problems

Yes. Wonderful animals.

Here are two of our failed fosters

The black ones are the best biglaughcloud9

We feed ours basically human food with some kibble as a bullet though they don’t particularly like it. Lots of pasta, fish, chicken, eggs etc.

We found that reducing the amount of “dog food” significantly reduces the gaseous emissions.

Ours has minimal gas, unless he has eaten something funny or odd. When we got him, it was awful, but after transitioning him to Millie's it has pretty much gone.

We have moved him to 60 / 40 protein to carbs and low fat to get his weight down.

I've only got a greyhound mix lurcher, but I agree on the crapping a lot comment. On kibble based foods he's a 5 bigguns a day man.

We've since swapped him to nature diet cartons and now his digestive issues have disappeared and his poos are much reduced. I think kibble is just full of filler, even the good quality stuff, Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved and Tails.
