So we've had our 5yr old rescue greyhound about 6-7 weeks now, and she's settling in really well, but this evening for the first time she woke up and was acting like she was on another planet.

It started with her moving her head about like an owl (if you can picture that look around with sideways bob head movement they do?) like she was tracking some invisible fly or something. She did that a few minutes and we thought we'd take her outside, as she's woken up before looking a bit vacant and it turned out she needed the loo (nothing like this though).

Then she struggled to get off the sofa, like it was a 6ft drop or something. Being a greyhound, she's a good height to hop up and down, so that was a bit strange and I ended up lifting her front paws down to the floor and she kinda followed afterwards. In the garden, she was sniffing about and seemed to come out of it a bit, though that was a good 10-15 mins after she woke up. I thought I'd try a couple of little treats to see if she was off food or not, and she took those ok and started to settle down, but only after another 5 mins or so of pacing up and down like she was tracking something under the floor almost (new build, solid floor as far as I know, not floorboards).

She's settled down a bit now, but just seemed out of it, almost like coming off of anesthesia or something. She had her 2nd vaccine yesterday, so wondered if that might have triggered the weirdness? She wasn't panting or appearing stressed out, just away with the fairies for a bit! Now just dead asleep.

Thought I'd bung something on here before contacting the vet in the morning.

Let's not jump to the worse case scenario... but.

Work back from HERE.

Could they have eaten something weird.

Could they have drunk something weird.

Yeah, admittedly Google wasn't helpful as it immediately goes to worst case scenarios for everything medical biggrin
I don't think she really showed the clot symptoms, as they sound a bit more extreme/obvious from the descriptions. Still, worth keeping an eye out to see if anything repeats or gets worse. As for now, she's just assuming the typical greyhound position of sleeping.

We keep an eye on her quite closely with food, so I don't think she could've got hold of anything without us knowing, but that thought did cross my mind.

Was this after dark or at dusk.

Our pup went mental at dust in the twilight.

They're very difficult to judge sometimes.

Usual hydration?

Maybe see how the morning routine goes.

On our second grey and not seen anything like that with either. Sleep startle on the first, but don't recall them ever waking up like that. As suggested keep an eye on them.

I wondered about that - or an ear infection.

Definitely a 'speak to the vet' situation.

Best of luck OP, please let us know the outcome.

Thanks for the messages and advice all, much appreciated.

She's been absolutely fine today, no repeat of yesterday and seems her normal self (eating well, reacting to her name, properly 'with it') so hopefully just some odd transient occurrence. Will keep a close eye on her tonight to see if it repeats itself, but otherwise just waiting on some vet feedback at the moment.

This was the bit of the tale that stood out to me, probably related to that rather than anything else in mind opinion.
