Been keeping fish for about 8 years, got a 120 litre tank (Aquael) and have had to move it due to doing a load of decorating, new floors etc.

So thinking of starting afresh, current tank is temporarily living in the garage, however the unit it was on sustained some damage so now its just a tank, so really need a new one.

Any suggestions as to whats a good brand, am thinking of going a bit bigger, maybe to 180 to 240 litres, does that bring any other changes other than taking more cleaning.

Looked at a Juwel Rio and it seemed a bit cheaply made, lid was a bit flimsy, any other brands better in that respect.

And then what to keep, currently just have 2 Silver Dollars who are 8 years old, a few Zebra Danios, 2 * convict Cichlids (which were a mistake as not suitable for a community tank and the fish shop changed their rating after I bought them) 1 Tiger barb and a few others. Not going Marine, so maybe Cichlids ?

I've been really pleased with my fluvial tanks, started with a Roma 200 and now a Siena 330. I like that they are easy to use with external filters, the Jewel ones come with fixed internal ones

I wish I had listened to friends in the hobby when I bought mine and gone with ND. They come very highly recommended.

I have 5 tanks of various volume. Three of them are OASE. They are not cheap to buy but are very well made. OASE has X2 lines, in the premium line the unit is pre assembled and the tank really looks good, the second, you have to assemble the unit.

Yeah, Fluval Roma 240 looks my best option, just not sure whether will continue though, in two minds.

I was lucky, I was just about to pay a different company to build by first tank. I decided to read there reviews and on reading, a high percentage of people had paid and not received a tank.

Fluval are great for a budget tank. I've had a few, and all 'just work'.

For something a little nicer, the DD tanks are superb quality. Thick, optiwhite glass and superb preconstructed cabinets.

Ordered a Fluval Roma 240 at the weekend.

My handful of fish will look a bit lost in there, luckily a mate has a Platy breeding problem, they wont stop so some free fish coming my way biggrin

Any suggestions for stuff for the bottom of the tank, any reason why I cant just buy and wash pea gravel from B and Q ?

And as its bigger, any suggestions on ways to improve the water changes ?

Anyone got one of these ?
