There's a field across the road from where I work where a farmer keeps a horse, there were a couple of donkeys in there a few weeks back and they were brilliant to interact with.
The horse wasn't that interested in people but the donkeys wouldn't leave you alone, scratch the ears of one and the other would be head butting you to get their ears scratched. Don't stand too close either as they would try to put their heads through the fence to investigate the contents of your coat pockets.
Apparently they have similar levels of intelligence to dogs and dolphins which I can well believe.
