Any ideas on this someone suggested a type of hoverfly but pictures online don’t seem to exactly match plus the weird sting bit?

Apologies for the image the better quality version despite saying 3mb exceeds the 10mb limit.

Think it's a hornet hoverfly, no sting, just mimics a hornet so predators give it a wide berth

Eristalis tenax perhaps

.. i think it's actually a bee. Gap between eyes and too hairy for a fly

Closest I’ve thought is Sericomyia superbiens but I still don’t think that’s correct.

I'm a bit of an insect spotter....google lens has ruined the fun to an extent though!

rofl yes that’s me although I decided not to renew this year due to the way they were heading just seemed like a money grab.
