My father has about ten koi in his garden pond, been there about 20 years. The friend who usually tends to them whilst he's away is unable to do so this year.
Each year something usually goes wrong with the auto feeder and the water level going down during hot spells.
Has anyone successfully rehomed fish? The most obvious places won't take them due fear of infection etc so it's a bit of a head scratcher.

As above, Koi will be absolutely fine without food for a while. It will do wonders for water quality! It's much better practice than leaving a dodgy auto feeder to cause inevitable problems.
Keeping water topped up and aerated is the priority. Usual maintenance and water checks a few days before he goes away is a good idea to make sure everything is settled and running properly .
You can sell Koi on eBay. Standard procedure is to photograph them in a blue koi bowl so get one of those if he doesn't already have one.. it will be useful when it comes to packing then too and can be sold with the fish. You may need to think about bags and oxygen supply for transport.
